SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Shirley Bryson of East Peoria, who passed away on May 15, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Shirley Bryson was born on May 9, 1932 in Peoria; her parents were Roland and Frances (nee Baker) Moody; she was educated in Sparland Township schools; and

WHEREAS, Shirley Bryson was employed in administration at Caterpillar Inc. until her retirement in July of 1996 after 25 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Shirley Bryson and her family had their Christian beginnings at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she attended over the years; she was also a member of Ward Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church and a past member of the Peoria Tri-County Urban League Guild and the Lambda Theta Sigma Sorority; and

WHEREAS, Shirley Bryson was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Howard, Junior, and Bill Moody; and

WHEREAS, Shirley Bryson is survived by a devoted son, James "Agbara" Bryson (fiancee, Margaret Moore); 3 grandchildren, Muron Bryson, Karlyn (Joe) Nevels, and Inca Bryson; 6 great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Khaliq, Joey, Josh, Laea, and Rylan; a dear family friend, Mary Page; 2 sisters-in-law, JeTaun Moody and Evelyn Walker; and many other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Shirley Bryson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Shirley Bryson as an expression of our sympathy.
