SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rodney A. Iwema of Gurnee, who passed away on March 29, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Rodney Iwema was born on June 14, 1939 in Chicago; his parents were John A. and Minnie Iwema; he married the love of his life, Diane Ippel, on June 10, 1961 in South Holland; and

WHEREAS, Rodney Iwema graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan in 1962 and received his Master's Degree from the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Rodney Iwema was a teacher and administrator in Harvey and Dolton, serving as Illinois and Superintendent of Gurnee School District 56 from 1974 to 1982; he was also a State Farm Insurance Agent until his retirement in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Rodney Iwema was active in Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle; he loved to travel, bike ride, hike, scuba dive, camp, and geocache, and he enjoyed creating stained glass art and jewelry from tumbled rocks, woodworking, photography, and collecting; he also enjoyed watching his children's and grandchildren's events and traveling with his wife; and

WHEREAS, Rodney Iwema was an active member of Gurnee Community Church, the Gurnee and Grayslake Exchange Clubs, and Gagewood Lions Club; he was also a trustee for the Grayslake Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Rodney Iwema is survived by his loving, caring wife of 52 years, Diane; children, Kent (Sherri) Iwema, Cheryl (Eric) Dorobek, and Darrell Iwema; brother, Larry (Kathy) Iwema; sister-in-law, Sharon (Randy) Boonstra; grandchildren, Kaleen, Connor, and Cole Iwema and Jessica and Joshua Dorobek; one niece; and 3 nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Rodney A. Iwema; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rodney Iwema as an expression of our sympathy.
