SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Albert D. "Vinegar Al" Burkus, who passed away on April 14, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Albert Burkus served his country with pride as a member of the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, Albert Burkus enjoyed bright colors, loud Hawaiian shirts, a good joke, and playing golf; he was the only member of the Crystal Lake Country Club to naturally birdie all five par 3s in a single round and not break a 100; he was well known as a great dancer and demonstrated great pride having danced on American Bandstand; he loved music of all kinds, especially Motown; he also loved the American flag and strongly believed it to be sacred; and

WHEREAS, Albert Burkus is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Agnes Burkus (nee Hughes); 2 sons, Kevin Burkus and Brian Burkus (Kim); a daughter, Colleen Gardner (John); his prized granddaughter, Josie Gardner, aka "His Josephine"; a brother, Daniel Burkus (Marie); a sister, Barbara Kintz; and many other loving family members and dear friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Albert D. "Vinegar Al" Burkus; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Albert Burkus as an expression of our sympathy.
