SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Marcia Beverly (nee Gray) Martin, widow
4of former Wheaton Mayor Robert J. Martin, who passed away on
5February 21, 2014; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marcia Martin was born in Chicago and grew up in
7the city's South Shore neighborhood; she graduated from the
8Illinois Institute of Technology in Architecture in 1956,
9received her master's degree from North Central College, and
10studied at the University of Chicago and the Institute of
11Design; she studied with many artists and architects including:
12Freeman Schoolcraft, Miles Von Der Rohe, Joshua C. Taylor,
13Alfred Coldwell, Vivian Crylian, Karen Wahler, John Hinrich,
14and many others; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Marcia Martin started her career doing
16architectural drawings of mechanical systems for McDonald's
17and other businesses and doing some work for the United States
18Air Force Academy in Colorado; she worked as a substitute
19teacher in Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200, and most
20recently she was a professor of architecture at the College of
21DuPage; she also designed homes and mechanical systems
22nationwide and wrote illustrated books, such as "Architectural
23Design" and "Life in a Small American City: An Artist's View of

1Wheaton"; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Marcia Martin was very involved with the Wheaton
3Center for History and the homeowners association at Waterford
4Place in downtown Wheaton, as well as many other community
5organizations; she enjoyed china painting, book clubs, and
6traveling throughout the country and Europe; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Marcia Martin was preceded in death by her
8husband, Robert; her brother, Joseph (the late Eileen); and by
92 of her nieces, Jennifer Brody and Ivy Erlich; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Marcia Martin is survived by her daughter,
11Elizabeth (Gregory) Cox; her son, Charles B. (Wendy); her
12grandchildren, Charles R., Justine, Jacob, Joshua, and
13Zachary; her identical twin sister, Lita H. (the late Dr.
14Arnold) Brody; and her nieces, Eileen Erlich, Danielle Erlich,
15and Heidi Goldberg; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Marcia Beverly Martin, and extend our sincere condolences to
19her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
