SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Arnold David Goodman of Waukegan, who passed away on March 12, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Arnold Goodman was born in Waukegan to Edes and Abraham Goodman; he graduated from Waukegan High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II; he used his GI Bill to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Business from the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Upon returning to Waukegan, Arnold Goodman began a career in sales; in 1953, he started Arnold's Work and Sport, a small army-navy surplus store; eventually known as "Arnold's", his business became one of the most well-known and highly-respected retailers in the Chicagoland area for 43 years; and

WHEREAS, Arnold Goodman belonged to the Congregation Am Echod synagogue all his life and was an avid supporter, volunteer, trustee, and fundraiser; and

WHEREAS, Arnold Goodman was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Melvin Gaist; and

WHEREAS, Arnold Goodman was the beloved husband of 60 years of Lorna (nee Broad); the devoted father of Andrea, Terri (Steve) Luxenberg, Alan (Nancy), and Bob; and proud "poppy" to Leah, Rebecca (fiance Hannah Ellenson) Israel, Erin (Daniel) Hammer, Jaimie and Brad Luxenberg, and Haley Goodman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Arnold David Goodman, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Arnold Goodman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
