SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Arnold David Goodman of Waukegan, who
4passed away on March 12, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Arnold Goodman was born in Waukegan to Edes and
6Abraham Goodman; he graduated from Waukegan High School and
7served in the United States Navy during World War II; he used
8his GI Bill to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Business from the
9University of Illinois; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Upon returning to Waukegan, Arnold Goodman began a
11career in sales; in 1953, he started Arnold's Work and Sport, a
12small army-navy surplus store; eventually known as "Arnold's",
13his business became one of the most well-known and
14highly-respected retailers in the Chicagoland area for 43
15years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Arnold Goodman belonged to the Congregation Am
17Echod synagogue all his life and was an avid supporter,
18volunteer, trustee, and fundraiser; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Arnold Goodman was preceded in death by his sister
20and brother-in-law, Anna and Melvin Gaist; and

1    WHEREAS, Arnold Goodman was the beloved husband of 60 years
2of Lorna (nee Broad); the devoted father of Andrea, Terri
3(Steve) Luxenberg, Alan (Nancy), and Bob; and proud "poppy" to
4Leah, Rebecca (fiance Hannah Ellenson) Israel, Erin (Daniel)
5Hammer, Jaimie and Brad Luxenberg, and Haley Goodman;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Arnold David Goodman, and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Arnold Goodman as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
