SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Oak Forest Police Department police
4officer James Morrissy, who passed away in the line of duty on
5March 17, 2014; and
 
6    WHEREAS, James Morrissy was born on July 30, 1951; he
7graduated from Tinley Park High School in 1969 and attended
8Thornton Community College; and
 
9    WHEREAS, James Morrissy served his country with pride as a
10member of the United States Army from 1970 to 1972, having
11obtained the rank of E-4; and
 
12    WHEREAS, James Morrissy began his career with the Oak
13Forest Police Department on July 16, 1992; during his career,
14he served as as a field training officer and a truck
15enforcement officer; and
 
16    WHEREAS, James Morrissy was the recipient of numerous
17awards and honors, including 9 annual awards from the Alliance
18against Intoxicated Motorists for DUI Enforcement, numerous
19commendations and appreciative letters from the public, and a
20Heroic Action Award from the City of Country Club Hills for
21risking his life during the arrest of an armed suspect; and

1    WHEREAS, James Morrissy was known for his great passion for
2working in patrol and serving the public; he will be remembered
3fondly as one of the most pro-active and productive officers in
4his department; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Morrissy is survived by his loving wife,
6Janice Morrissy, and his sons, Kyle, Marc, and Jacob;
7therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
10family and friends, mourn the passing of James Morrissy; and be
11it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of James Morrissy as an expression of
14our sympathy.
