SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Oak Forest Police Department police officer James Morrissy, who passed away in the line of duty on March 17, 2014; and

WHEREAS, James Morrissy was born on July 30, 1951; he graduated from Tinley Park High School in 1969 and attended Thornton Community College; and

WHEREAS, James Morrissy served his country with pride as a member of the United States Army from 1970 to 1972, having obtained the rank of E-4; and

WHEREAS, James Morrissy began his career with the Oak Forest Police Department on July 16, 1992; during his career, he served as as a field training officer and a truck enforcement officer; and

WHEREAS, James Morrissy was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including 9 annual awards from the Alliance against Intoxicated Motorists for DUI Enforcement, numerous commendations and appreciative letters from the public, and a Heroic Action Award from the City of Country Club Hills for risking his life during the arrest of an armed suspect; and

WHEREAS, James Morrissy was known for his great passion for working in patrol and serving the public; he will be remembered fondly as one of the most pro-active and productive officers in his department; and

WHEREAS, James Morrissy is survived by his loving wife, Janice Morrissy, and his sons, Kyle, Marc, and Jacob; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of James Morrissy; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Morrissy as an expression of our sympathy.
