SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their
4lives in service to the State; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Warren County Sheriff's Deputy George V. Darnell
6was killed in the line of duty on December 7, 1981 on US Route
767 north of Monmouth; and
 
8    WHEREAS, George Darnell was born on December 16, 1920 in
9Hull to Delbert Walter and Esther (nee Smith) Darnell; he
10attended school in Adams County and married Eva E. Stormer on
11January 21, 1942 in Quincy; he served for 7 years with the
12Warren County Sheriff's Auxiliary and became a Warren County
13deputy sheriff in 1971; and
 
14    WHEREAS, George Darnell was a member of the Immaculate
15Conception Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2301, and
16was a veteran of World War II; he enjoyed hunting and outdoor
17life; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
20CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate US Route 67 in Warren
21County, starting 7 miles north of Monmouth, ending 8 miles

1north of Monmouth, as the "Deputy George V. Darnell Memorial
2Highway"; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
4is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
5State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
6giving notice of the name; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Deputy George V. Darnell, the Warren
9County Sheriff's Department, and the Secretary of the Illinois
10Department of Transportation.
