SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
Creates the Hepatitis C Screening Act. Provides that every individual
born between the years of 1945 and 1965 who receives health services from a
hospital as an inpatient or in the emergency department of a hospital or
who receives primary care services in an outpatient department of a
hospital or who receives health services from a health care practitioner
providing primary care shall be offered a hepatitis C-related test, unless
the health care practitioner providing the services reasonably believes
that certain conditions are present. Effective January 1, 2015.

AN ACT concerning public health.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
This Act may be cited as the
Hepatitis C Screening Act.
In this Act:
"Department" means the Department of Public Health.
"Director" means the Director of Public Health.
"Health care practitioner" means a physician licensed to
practice medicine in all its branches, a physician assistant,
or a nurse practitioner.
"Hospital" means a duly licensed institution as defined in
Hospital Licensing Act or the University of Illinois
Hospital as defined in the University of Illinois Hospital Act.
"Primary care" means the medical fields of family medicine,
general pediatrics, primary care, internal medicine, primary
care obstetrics, or primary care gynecology, without regard to
