HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 was signed
3into law on August 20, 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The purpose of this legislation was to eliminate
5the paradox of poverty in the midst of plenty in this nation;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Because of this important landmark legislation,
8Community Action Agencies began a proud tradition of service to
9the vulnerable families and individuals of Illinois and the
10nation; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies embody the spirit of
12hope, improve communities, and make America a better place to
13live; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Nearly 650,000 Illinois residents are served
15annually by Community Action Agencies operating in all 102
16counties; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The Community Action Agencies of Illinois will
18commemorate this year as the 50th anniversary of service to
19Illinois and the nation; and

1    WHEREAS, Now more than ever, all people of this great state
2must unite to end hunger, homelessness, unemployment,
3illiteracy, and indifference; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6the Community Action Agencies of Illinois and the Illinois
7Association of Community Action Agencies be appropriately
8recognized for outstanding service to the people of Illinois in
9this 50th year of service; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the Illinois Association of Community Action
12Agencies Board of Directors on behalf of all Illinois Community
13Action Agencies.
