HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ralph Edwin Gussarson of Antioch, who passed away on March 11, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Gussarson was born on May 2, 1925 to Hugo and Edith (nee Olson) Gussarson; he graduated from Antioch High School in 1942 and joined the United States Navy in 1943, serving in the South Pacific during World War II; he was discharged in 1946 and married Ruthella Keister at the United Methodist Church in Antioch on October 8, 1949; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Gussarson retired as a diecast machinist in 1982 from the Outboard Motor Corporation in Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Gussarson was a charter and life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4551 in Antioch, where he was Bingo Chairman; he was also a life-member of the American Legion Post #771 in Gurnee; in 1954, he joined the Antioch Moose Lodge #525 and received a Fellowship Decree and served as Governor from 1989 to 1991; he had served as past-President of the Antioch Township Republican Club, Precinct #2 committeeman, Alderman of Felter's Subdivision, and Antioch Beautification Committee member; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Gussarson enjoyed gardening and playing golf; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Gussarson was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother, Otto Gussarson; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Gussarson is survived by his wife, of nearly 65 years, Ruthella; his children, Bruce (Angela), Joan (Troy) Shea, Daryl "Duffy" (Arlene), LuAnn (Alfred) Ultes, and Alan (Caryn); his grandchildren, Tricia Fandre, Lisa Chavez, Adam Chavez, Kristy Gussarson, Jennifer Gussarson, Jason Ultes, Jeffrey Ultes, Daryl Renee Gussarson, and Michael Gussarson; his 23 great-grandchildren; his 5 great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Winfield; and several nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ralph Edwin Gussarson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ralph Gussarson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
