HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend
4Cleven Minter, Sr. of Chicago; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Minter, Sr. was born on August 4, 1932 in
6Lake Providence, Louisiana to Clara and David Minter; he
7received his education in the Louisiana school system and
8settled in Chicago in 1952; he received his Bachelor of Bible
9Study Degree in August of 1975 from the University Bible
10Institute in Alma, Tennessee and his Bachelor of Theology in
11May of 1976 from McKinley Theological Seminary; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rev. Minter, Sr. worked for many years with
13General Motors, where he served as Chief Union Steward; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rev. Minter, Sr. was a member of the Greater
15Christian Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a
16deacon and as chairman of the board; in 1956, he became a
17member and manager of the Pilgrim Harmonizers quartet group,
18touring many cities singing the gospel; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rev. Minter, Sr. became a licensed minister on
20January 25, 1970 and was ordained on December 6, 1970; in 1971,
21he accepted pastorage of the New Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist

1Church; during his 43 years of leadership as pastor, he
2implemented numerous programs and events such as a community
3food pantry, hot meal program, community cookout, faith prayer
4ministry, clothing ministry, sick committee, substance abuse
5program, and a live broadcast ministry that has continued for
6over 10 years; he has mentored over 20 pastors and ministers
7that are currently preaching the gospel; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Rev. Minter, Sr. married Sis. Sandra Minter on
9January 2, 1988, and he was awarded his Doctorate of Divinity
10on November 10, 1989; he was awarded his Doctor of Humane
11Letters from RMN Bible College on July 29, 2002; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Affectionately called "Nug" as a child, Rev.
13Minter, Sr. enjoyed fishing and hunting; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rev. Minter, Sr. was preceded in death by his
15parents, and by his siblings, Henry, Sam, Willie, Leroy, Frank,
16Ollie Pearl, and Percy Pearl; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Rev. Minter, Sr. is survived by his wife of 26
18years, Sis. Sandra; his daughters, Vera Minter-Winbush and
19Clevette; his son, Cleven, Jr.; his brother, Bishop Roosevelt
20Adams; his sisters, Clara Mae and Dorothy; his mother-in-law,
21Mildred Norwood; his grandchildren, Paul, Cameron, and
22Cadence; his 3 great-grandchildren; his

1great-great-grandchild; his friend, Dr. Mac McCullom; his
2spiritual children of New Mount Vernon MBC; and a host of
3nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we mourn the passing of Reverend Cleven Minter, Sr., and extend
7our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
8knew and loved him; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Rev. Minter, Sr. as an expression of
11our deepest sympathy.
