HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Michael J. Tate on the
4occasion of his 60th birthday on March 7, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael Tate was born on March 7, 1954 in Lincoln;
6his parents are Jim and Audrey Tate; and
 
7    WHEREAS, After graduating from Stephen Decatur High
8School, Michael Tate attended Milliken University and
9graduated from Western Illinois University, where he earned a
10degree in Political Science and Public Administration; and
 
11    WHEREAS, At the age of 25, Michael Tate became the youngest
12public official in Decatur's history when he was elected to the
13Decatur City Council; shortly afterwards, he was honored to be
14elected to the Illinois House of Representatives at the age of
1526; during his 10 years as an Illinois State Representative, he
16loyally served the constituents of Christian, Cumberland,
17Macon, Moultrie, Sangamon, and Shelby counties and earned a
18reputation as an honest, hard-working, and effective lawmaker;
19he served as a member of the Illinois House Republican
20leadership and was a Minority Spokesperson on the
21Appropriations Committee at a time when Illinois had a balanced
22budget under the leadership of Governor James R. Thompson; he

1also served faithfully on the Agriculture Committee; and
 
2    WHEREAS, During his tenure in the Illinois House of
3Representatives, Michael Tate was instrumental in securing
4funding for the Richland Community College Campus, the
5construction of Illinois Route 39, and major improvements to
6Eagle Creek State Park on Lake Shelbyville; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Michael Tate has been a proud recipient of
8numerous Illinois Farm Bureau Service's "Friend of the Farmer"
9Awards; he also received awards from the Illinois Hospital
10Association, the Illinois Mental Health Association, the
11Illinois Education Association, the Illinois State Rifle
12Association, the National Rifle Association, and the
13Federation of Independent Business in recognition of his sound
14economic policies, fiscal conservative values, and ability to
15effectively represent the concerns of his constituents; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Michael Tate has served as Chief Executive Officer
17of the Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois since 1990; in
18this position, he has served many communities and small
19businesses well with his tireless work on behalf of the
20association and its more than 1,200 members throughout the
21State; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Michael Tate and his wife, Cindy (nee Morton)

1Tate, will celebrate 30 years of marriage in 2014; they are the
2proud parents of Andrew, Rorrie, Regan, and Chase; therefore,
3be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate Michael J. Tate on the occasion of his 60th
7birthday and wish him many happy and healthy years to come; and
8be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Michael Tate as a symbol of our esteem and
11respect.
