1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Pastor Marvin E. Wiley on
4 his 23rd anniversary of pastoring at the Rock of Ages Baptist
5 Church in Maywood and his 47 years of preaching; and

6     WHEREAS, Marvin Wiley's preaching has carried him across
7 the country for leadership, stewardship, and evangelistic
8 service; under his leadership, Rock of Ages Baptist Church has
9 experienced great spiritual, numerical, and financial growth;
10 and

11     WHEREAS, Marvin Wiley and the Rock of Ages Baptist Church's
12 mission is to minister to the needs of the masses and to impact
13 the Maywood and the global community; and

14     WHEREAS, Marvin Wiley's visionary leadership is presently
15 positioning the church to embark on a strategic planning
16 process that will chart and map out the future of the Church
17 for the next 5 to 10 years; and

18     WHEREAS, Marvin Wiley serves as senior counselor to the Mt.
19 Zion Missionary Baptist Church in East St. Louis; and

20     WHEREAS, Marvin Wiley was inducted into the Martin Luther

1 King Jr. Board of Preachers Morehouse College in Atlanta,
2 Georgia; he also served on the Corporate Board of Directors of
3 the Sunday School Publishing Board of the National Baptist
4 Convention, USA, Inc.; and

5     WHEREAS, Marvin Wiley was recognized for his contributions
6 to the community and honored with an honorary street sign that
7 spans the corners of 12th and Madison through 14th and Madison;
8 he was also recognized in Who's Who In Black Chicago, which
9 showcases the achievements of influential African-American
10 leaders; and

11     WHEREAS, Marvin Wiley serves as a model of hard work,
12 integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
13 Illinois; therefore, be it

14     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16 we designate March 9, 2014 as Marvin E. Wiley Day in the State
17 of Illinois; and be it further

18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to Marvin Wiley as a symbol of our esteem and
20 respect.
