HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Pastor August Minor of Chicago, who passed away on February 17, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Minor was born on June 18, 1929; he graduated from high school in New Orleans, Louisiana; he received his Associates of Art Degree from Crane Junior College and studied Theology at Moody Bible Institute; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Minor was called into the ministry in 1961; he joined the Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church in 1964 and was ordained in 1966; in the spring of 1966, he was elected to serve as pastor of the Union Hill Congregation and served there as pastor for 47 years; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Minor's leadership saw Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church grow its membership, furnish hot meals for those in need, and provide scholarship opportunities for students to continue their pursuit of a higher education; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Minor had a steadfast commitment to uplifting lives and serving the needs of families and individuals throughout the community; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Minor was married to the late Lucile Davis Minor, and they had 3 children, Timothy, Deloris, and Nina; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Pastor August Minor, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Pastor August Minor as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
