HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Jason Brown of Highland
4Park on the occasion of his performances at the 2014 Winter
5Olympics; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jason Brown was born on December 15, 1994; he is
7the son of proud parents Steven Brown and Marla Kell Brown; he
8began skating at the age of 3 after being inspired by his older
9sister to get into the sport; in the spring of 2013, he, his
10coach, Kori Ade, and his other training mates relocated to
11Monument, Colorado to commence training at the Colorado Sports
12Center; and
 
13    WHEREAS, On January 12, 2014, Jason Brown won the free
14skate (182.61) and the silver medal with a total score of
15270.08 at the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships; he was
16subsequently nominated to be on the 2014 United States Olympic
17team to compete in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia; and
 
18    WHEREAS, On February 9, 2014, Jason Brown competed in the
19free skate of team event at the 2014 Winter Olympics; he earned
20153.67, finished in 4th place, and earned 7 points for Team
21USA, helping the team win the bronze medal; on February 13,
222014, he competed in the men's short program, earning 86.00 and

1ending in 6th place, less than a point out of 3rd, going into
2the free skate; during the men's free skate on February 14,
32014, he earned a 152.37 and 238.37 overall, finishing in 9th
4place; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jason Brown was the recipient of the Athlete
6Alumni Ambassadors Award, the Ralph Potter Memorial award for
7Exceptional Ability and Achievement, and the President's
8Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jason Brown is an enthusiastic supporter of
10tsunami relief efforts, the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, City Skate
11outreach program, and the Beyond Sports Foundation; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jason Brown serves as a model of hard work,
13integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
14Illinois; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we congratulate Jason Brown on the occasion of his performances
18at the 2014 Winter Olympics and wish him continued success and
19happiness in the future; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Jason Brown as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
