HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Village of Chicago Ridge on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, Chicago Ridge derives its name from the "ridges" that were created when trainloads of soil were taken from this area to the lakefront as fill during the Columbian Exposition of 1893; and

WHEREAS, Chicago Ridge, a southwest suburb of Chicago, was incorporated as a Village on September 1, 1914; and

WHEREAS, Chicago Ridge has emphasized steady progress and family values while maintaining a well-balanced community with a small town atmosphere where neighbors come together; and

WHEREAS, The residents are encouraged to help celebrate this momentous occasion by participating in yearlong events and pausing to reflect on Chicago Ridge's proud past, vibrant present, and optimistic future; and

WHEREAS, A yearlong celebration in honor of the anniversary will kick-off on April 12, 2014 at the Glendora House in Chicago Ridge with a Centennial Gala; a parade and community festival will be held in September and there will be an essay contest for students, a fire hydrant painting contest for residents, a banner program for the businesses as well as the residents, a brick walkway, and a time capsule; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Village of Chicago Ridge on its 100th anniversary and wish it many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the citizens of the Village of Chicago Ridge as an expression of our esteem and respect.
