HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Village of
4Chicago Ridge on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its
5founding; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Chicago Ridge derives its name from the "ridges"
7that were created when trainloads of soil were taken from this
8area to the lakefront as fill during the Columbian Exposition
9of 1893; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Chicago Ridge, a southwest suburb of Chicago, was
11incorporated as a Village on September 1, 1914; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Chicago Ridge has emphasized steady progress and
13family values while maintaining a well-balanced community with
14a small town atmosphere where neighbors come together; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The residents are encouraged to help celebrate
16this momentous occasion by participating in yearlong events and
17pausing to reflect on Chicago Ridge's proud past, vibrant
18present, and optimistic future; and
 
19    WHEREAS, A yearlong celebration in honor of the anniversary
20will kick-off on April 12, 2014 at the Glendora House in

1Chicago Ridge with a Centennial Gala; a parade and community
2festival will be held in September and there will be an essay
3contest for students, a fire hydrant painting contest for
4residents, a banner program for the businesses as well as the
5residents, a brick walkway, and a time capsule; therefore, be
6it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we congratulate the Village of Chicago Ridge on its 100th
10anniversary and wish it many more years of success; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the citizens of the Village of Chicago Ridge as an
14expression of our esteem and respect.
