HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Professional school counselors are employed in a variety of school district settings, including private and public, rural, suburban, and urban, and are involved in many different organizations, including, but not limited to, the Illinois School Counselor Association; and

WHEREAS, School counselors are actively committed to helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents as these traits relate to career awareness and development; and

WHEREAS, School counselors help parents focus on ways to further the educational, personal, and social growth of their children; and

WHEREAS, School counselors work with teachers and other educators to help students explore their potential and set realistic goals for themselves; and

WHEREAS, School counselors seek to identify and utilize community resources that can enhance and complement comprehensive school counseling programs and help students become productive members of society; and

WHEREAS, Comprehensive developmental school counseling programs are considered an integral part of the educational process that enables all students to achieve success in school; and

WHEREAS, It is appropriate that professional school counselors be honored for their unmatched contribution to the quality of life in the State of Illinois and our educational system during a week of recognition; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate February 3-7, 2014 as National School Counseling Week in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Illinois School Counselor Association as an expression of our esteem and respect.
