HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Ralph DeBartolo on the
4occasion of his retirement from the Cook County Sheriff's
5Office after 55 years of dedicated service in law enforcement;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo served his country with pride as a
8member of the United States Army as an artilleryman during the
9Korean War; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo began his long and distinguished
11career in law enforcement on July 17, 1957 as a cadet with the
12Chicago Police Department; for the last 17 years of his time
13with the Department, he served as the personal bodyguard for
14the psychiatrists who helped determine the sanity of mass
15murderers, serial killers, and other criminal suspects; he
16retired from the Department on February 4, 1989; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo began working for the Cook County
18Sheriff's Office as a Deputy Sheriff on April 5, 1989; on
19January 17, 1999, he was selected to serve as an Assistant
20Chief; he served with distinction as Assistant Chief in
21District 2 (Skokie) and District 3 (Rolling Meadows) for many
22years until his retirement; and

1    WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo was instrumental in the founding
2of the Italian American Police Officers Association and is a
3former president of the organization; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo has been the recipient of numerous
5awards from civic organizations, including the Order Sons of
6Italy in America and the Italian American Police Officers
7Association; he was the recipient of the 2010 Law Enforcement
8Award from the Illinois State Bar Association; he also
9participated in the annual St. Jude Police League parade
10honoring fallen officers; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ralph DeBartolo and his loving wife, Helen, were
12married on August 25, 1956; together, they have 4 children,
13Tony (Kim), Gina, Danny (Melissa), and Brett; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we congratulate Ralph DeBartolo on the occasion of his
17retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the
18future; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to Ralph DeBartolo as a symbol of our esteem and
21respect.
