HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, RLI Corp will celebrate the $20 million expansion/renovation of its corporate headquarters on November 6, 2013 at 9025 N. Lindbergh Drive in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, The expansion, the company's fifth since 1970, reflects RLI's commitment to Peoria; and

WHEREAS, The project is the culmination of years of planning in which RLI employees were an integral part; focus groups guided design decisions on workstations, layouts, furniture, technology and ambience; and

WHEREAS, RLI was founded nearly 50 years ago by its visionary founder, Gerald Stephens, who recognized a need to insure the expensive replacement of contact lens (RLI); and

WHEREAS, RLI became the largest contact lens insurer in the world before expanding into the direct writing of commercial umbrella programs; today RLI covers a diversified portfolio of property and casualty coverage and surety bonds in niche markets in all 50 states; subsidiaries include: RLI Insurance Company, Mt. Hawley Insurance Company, RLI Indemnity and Contractors Bonding and Insurance Company; the $2.6 billion company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange; and

WHEREAS, Chairman and CEO, Jonathan Michael attributes RLI's success to "Different Works" - a corporate brand that embodies Midwest values of creativity, innovation, hard work, and financial discipline; and

WHEREAS, Jonathan Michael has exemplified the RLI tradition of outstanding community service; and

WHEREAS, RLI has been celebrated throughout its history for its corporate and employee generosity to local, cultural, educational and community institutions, notably OSF St. Francis, and Bradley University; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate RLI Corp for its expansion and commitment to the Peoria community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jonathan Michael, Chairman and CEO of RLI Corp.
