HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Maryville Academy on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, Maryville Academy was founded in 1883 by Archbishop Patrick A. Feehan; originally known as Saint Mary's Training School for Boys, the school began on an 880-acre working farm located north of Des Plaines; it was a place for boys to live, learn a trade, and get an education, preparing themselves for a life beyond petty thievery, homelessness, hunger, and loneliness; and

WHEREAS, Maryville Academy is under the tutelage of Sr. Catherine Ryan, O.S.F.; she was appointed Executive Director in December 2004 and has overseen the continuation of successful established programs and has been instrumental in the creation of new programs, such as the Crisis Nursery, the Children's Healthcare Center, the Jen School, and the Saint Martin de Porres program; and

WHEREAS, Maryville Academy is accredited by both the Council on Accreditation and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations; and

WHEREAS, Maryville Academy still meets the ever changing needs of children and their families, always keeping its mission in focus: "Rebuilding Lives...Rekindling Spirits...Renewing Hope"; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Maryville Academy on its 130th anniversary and wish it many more years of continued success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Maryville Academy as an expression of our esteem and respect.
