HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Anne Wagner of Downers Grove North High School on being crowned the 2013 homecoming queen; and

WHEREAS, Anne, called "Annie" by her friends, is known for her bubbly personality and as a fan of Justin Bieber; she is a senior at Downers Grove North High School; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, Anne was diagnosed with leukemia; she spent a significant amount of time in and out of the hospital going through chemotherapy, and consequently missed more than a year-and-a-half of her sophomore and junior years of high school; and

WHEREAS, Despite the diagnosis and several complications during chemotherapy, Anne remained upbeat and positive throughout her treatment, and was happy to return to high school this fall; and

WHEREAS, When it came time to elect a homecoming queen, Mary Doro, who has been friends with Anne since kindergarten, knew there was no better candidate for the crown than Anne; and

WHEREAS, Mary launched a social media campaign through sites such as Facebook and Twitter to bring attention to Anne's story and highlight her courage and optimism; and

WHEREAS, On September 27, 2013, Anne was crowned homecoming queen of Downers Grove North High School; and

WHEREAS, Since winning the title of homecoming queen, Anne has been admired as an inspiration across the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Anne Wagner for her heroic battle with leukemia, and we congratulate her on being elected homecoming queen; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Anne Wagner as an expression of our sincerest respect and esteem.
