HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Chicago Magnesium Casting Company on the 60th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, Donald R. Burnett, relying on his experiences in the United States Navy and equipped with a metallurgy degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, founded Chicago Magnesium on October 19, 1953, and for 60 years it has been at the forefront of magnesium and aluminum sand casting; and

WHEREAS, Chicago Magnesium began in a small one-room cinder-block building on a plot of land in south suburban Blue Island; a few dedicated workers started by pouring castings for the Piper Club airplane and making castings for a jukebox; and

WHEREAS, By 1959, Chicago Magnesium outgrew its original location and a larger foundry at the current Dixmoor site was built; the sixties and seventies saw continued growth with the company employing nearly 100 people and close to 75% of its production devoted to military aircraft; and

WHEREAS, In 1976, Chicago Magnesium was passed down to Donald's son, Richard Burnett; he became President in 1996 and sole owner in 2010; and

WHEREAS, A celebration with the families of the 150 employees that now work at Chicago Magnesium will take place on October 4, 2013; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Chicago Magnesium Casting Company on the 60th anniversary of its founding; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chicago Magnesium as an expression of our esteem and respect.
