HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Chicago
4Magnesium Casting Company on the 60th anniversary of its
5founding; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Donald R. Burnett, relying on his experiences in
7the United States Navy and equipped with a metallurgy degree
8from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, founded
9Chicago Magnesium on October 19, 1953, and for 60 years it has
10been at the forefront of magnesium and aluminum sand casting;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Chicago Magnesium began in a small one-room
13cinder-block building on a plot of land in south suburban Blue
14Island; a few dedicated workers started by pouring castings for
15the Piper Club airplane and making castings for a jukebox; and
 
16    WHEREAS, By 1959, Chicago Magnesium outgrew its original
17location and a larger foundry at the current Dixmoor site was
18built; the sixties and seventies saw continued growth with the
19company employing nearly 100 people and close to 75% of its
20production devoted to military aircraft; and
 
21    WHEREAS, In 1976, Chicago Magnesium was passed down to

1Donald's son, Richard Burnett; he became President in 1996 and
2sole owner in 2010; and
 
3    WHEREAS, A celebration with the families of the 150
4employees that now work at Chicago Magnesium will take place on
5October 4, 2013; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate the Chicago Magnesium Casting Company on the
960th anniversary of its founding; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Chicago Magnesium as an expression of our esteem
12and respect.
