HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the members of the Glenbard South girls softball team for winning the IHSA Class 3 State Championship; and

WHEREAS, After finishing the 2012 season as State Champions, the Glenbard South girls softball team lost 7 of its 9 starters to graduation, leaving the team to start a "rebuilding" year in 2013; striving to create their own identity, the team defied all expectations and captured the title through a combination of senior leadership and fresh talent; the team accomplished all of the goals they set the previous year, including 25 wins, a team batting average of .300 or higher, and victories at the Super-Sectionals and the Conference; and

WHEREAS, The Glenbard South girls softball team beat Alton Marquette 1-0 to secure victory at the IHSA Class 3 State Championship game; the team finished the season with a spectacular 31-5 record; and

WHEREAS, The Glenbard South girls softball team's victory marks the program's second consecutive State championship and makes it the first program to win consecutive titles in either Class 3A or 4A; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Glenbard South girls softball team are Payton Carli, Ashley Cohen, Taylor Carli, Mina Marra, Patricia Weigand, Ashton Cattenhead, Giselle Flores, Aimee Gerhardt, Molly Hentges, Gianna Marra, Danielle Scarpiniti, Tarah Valdez, Stephanie Chitkowski, Madison Rankin, Hannah Taylor, and Jane Trzaska; the team's coaches are Julie Fonda-Smith, Kris Morton, Kristen Beckford-Wallace, Diana Fisher, Michelle Yudys, Jamie McPherin, and Lisa Morton; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Glenbard South girls softball team for winning the IHSA Class 3 State Championship and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Glenbard South girls softball team as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
