HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On June 24, 2013, the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup Championship by defeating the Boston Bruins by a score of 3-2; and

WHEREAS, The Blackhawks defeated the Boston Bruins in 6 games to win one of the most exciting finals series in the history of the NHL; and

WHEREAS, The Blackhawks' victory clinched the team's second title since 2010 and the team's fifth title overall; and

WHEREAS, The Blackhawks set a new NHL record by earning a point in 24 consecutive games to start the season; the Blackhawks concluded the regular season with a record of 36-7-5, and won the Presidents' Trophy for earning the most points in the NHL; and

WHEREAS, The Blackhawks defeated the Minnesota Wild in the first round of the playoffs; and

WHEREAS, The Blackhawks defeated the Detroit Redwings in a thrilling 7 game series in the second round of the playoffs; and

WHEREAS, The Blackhawks defeated the Los Angeles Kings in 5 games in the Western Conference Finals to advance to the Stanley Cup; and

WHEREAS, The Blackhawks scored 2 goals in 17 seconds in game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals to defeat the Boston Bruins and win the Stanley Cup; and

WHEREAS, Rocky Wirtz, John McDonough, Stan Bowman, and Joel Quenneville have put together and led a great organization; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Kane was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for being named the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs by scoring 9 goals and having 10 assists throughout the playoffs; and

WHEREAS, Winning the Stanley Cup takes dedication from all members of the organization and players on the active roster; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend and applaud the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks for their accomplishments during the 2013 season, for their talent and teamwork displayed on the ice, for their excellence and humility off the ice, for the outstanding coaching staff leading the team, and for the brilliant ownership and management that crafted and built the 2013 Blackhawks; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to each member of the Blackhawks executive board, to each member of the coaching staff and management of the 2013 Blackhawks organization, and to every player on the 2013 roster of the Chicago Blackhawks.
