HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bill Stevens, who passed away on June 3, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Bill Stevens was born on September 6, 1939, in Marion; his parents were William and Hazel Victoria Stevens; he married Patricia A. Pasquino on December 31, 1960, in St. Paul's Catholic Church in Johnston City; and

WHEREAS, Bill Stevens was a retired coal miner, having worked for Old Ben No. 24 and Brushy Creek Coal Mine; and

WHEREAS, Bill Stevens served as mayor of Johnston City; he served as chairman for the Williamson County Democratic Party and as financial secretary for UMWA Local 2420; he also served on the merit board for the police and fire departments in Johnston City; and

WHEREAS, Bill Stevens was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin and formerly attended St. Paul's Catholic Church in Johnston City; he was also a member of Knights of Columbus in Johnston City and a former member of Southern Illinois Enforcement Group; and

WHEREAS, Bill Stevens was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Ted Martin; and his brother-in-law, Wayne Gibbens; and

WHEREAS, Bill Stevens is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pat Stevens; his daughters and son-in-law, Lynn Ann Steh and Lori Kay and Danny Beers; his grandchildren, Wesley J. Steh, Adra "Addie" Rash (Ryan), and Megan Dawes; his great-granddaughter, Aubrey Rash; his brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Larry and Maurene Stevens; his sister, Sharon Gibbens; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Catherine and Henry Moore and Chris Pasquino; his many nieces and nephews; his close family friends, John Bradley and Tommy Thomas; and his beloved pet, Hazie May; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Bill Stevens; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bill Stevens as an expression of our sympathy.
