HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Melody Watson on her admirable career as an educator and on the occasion of her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Melody Watson first began teaching in District 308 at Oswego Junior High and Thompson Junior High; she taught health education to 6th and 8th-grade students and life science to 7th-grade students; and

WHEREAS, Melody Watson taught as a substitute teacher at DuPue High School and Buda Western High School while starting her family; and

WHEREAS, When Melody Watson returned to work full-time, she returned to District 308; and

WHEREAS, Melody Watson worked at Traughber Junior High School, where she taught a 6th-grade self-contained class and regular and honors math; and

WHEREAS, In 2006, Melody Watson transferred to Plank Junior High School, where she taught regular and honors math until her retirement; and

WHEREAS, During her tenure, Melody Watson was honored with the Traughber Junior High VIP Award and the Village of Oswego Outstanding Education recognition; and

WHEREAS, Melody Watson served as an outdoor education coordinator, junior high math curriculum coordinator, District 308 Five-Year Plan Committee member, Traughber Junior High School Improvement Team member, and Plant Junior High Building Leadership Team member; and

WHEREAS, Melody Watson was involved in junior high athletics and served as an athletic aide, intramural basketball sponsor, athletic director, and coach for volleyball, track, and cheerleading; and

WHEREAS, Melody Watson was an active member and officer of the Oswego Education Association and the Oswego Foundation for Educational Excellence; and

WHEREAS, Melody Watson spent a total of 35 years in education, with 31 of them being in District 308; and

WHEREAS, Melody Watson is recognized for dedicating her life's work to the Oswego community, and especially for her kindness and patience; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Melody Watson on her 35 years in education, her dedication to the Oswego community, and her retirement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Melody Watson as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
