HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jim Matheis on the occasion of his retirement as executive director of the Lincoln Memorial Garden; and

WHEREAS, Jim Matheis has worked at Lincoln Memorial Garden for more than 30 years; he began his career as an intern in May in 1980 while a student at Sangamon State University; he became executive director of the garden in 1987; and

WHEREAS, Under Jim Matheis' leadership, Lincoln Memorial Garden filled an important role in Sangamon County, providing park space and educational programs while serving as a living memorial to President Abraham Lincoln; and

WHEREAS, Jim Matheis is a lifelong resident of Sangamon County and a graduate of Sangamon State University; and

WHEREAS, Jim Matheis' retirement concludes 30 years of service to Lincoln Memorial Garden, but is undoubtedly another step in his role as a leader in Springfield and Sangamon County; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Jim Matheis on his retirement and wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jim Matheis as an expression of our esteem and respect.
