HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Southeast High School Spartans girls' track & field team on winning their 4th consecutive Class 2A State championship on May 18, 2013; and

WHEREAS, The Spartans prevailed over their closest competitors by an impressive 27-point margin; and

WHEREAS, The Spartans' championship reflects an extraordinary team effort, claiming 1st place in 3 events, and placing 11 girls in the finals of 14 different events; and

WHEREAS, Southeast student-athletes Justice Collins, Charday Crawford, Halle Devoe, Jamari Drake, Kamaria Gage, Alexus Henry, Lunden Henry, Shirley Jones, Ceaira McGrone, Brion Portis, Zaneta White, and Shauniera Wilson represented their school in the State meet; and

WHEREAS, Senior Charday Crawford placed 1st in the State in the 100-meter dash and 2nd in the 200-meter dash; and

WHEREAS, Senior Brion Portis placed 1st in the triple jump and 12th in the long jump; and

WHEREAS, Senior Halle Devoe placed 3rd in the high jump; and

WHEREAS, Junior Shauniera Wilson placed 7th in the discus throw and 12th in the shot put; and

WHEREAS, Senior Justice Collins placed 9th in the 100-meter high hurdles and 9th in the 300-meter low hurdles; and

WHEREAS, Senior Kamaria Gage placed 11th in the discus throw; and

WHEREAS, The 4x200-meter relay team, made up of Ceaira McGrone, Shirley Jones, Brion Portis, and Charday Crawford, placed 1st in the State; and

WHEREAS, The 4x100 meter relay team, made up of Ceaira McGrone, Shirley Jones, Zaneta White, and Charday Crawford, placed 2nd in the event; and

WHEREAS, The 4x400-meter relay team, made up of Shirley Jones, Alexus Henry, Lunden Henry, and Brion Portis, placed 2nd in the State; and

WHEREAS, Coach Barb Montgomery led her team to the State championship in her first year as head coach; and

WHEREAS, The teamwork, commitment, and dedication of the Spartans during their 4 championship seasons serves as a model for all of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Southeast High School Spartans girls' track & field team for their victory and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Southeast High School Spartans girls' track & field team as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
