HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Robert E. Smith has served as a Commissioner of the Arlington Heights Park District for 16 years, including 2 terms as president and 2 terms as vice-president; and

WHEREAS, During Robert Smith's tenure, the District was recognized as an Illinois Association of Park Districts/Illinois Park and Recreation Association "Distinguished Park and Recreation Agency"; the District also received the National Gold Medal for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management; and

WHEREAS, Robert Smith worked to improve parks throughout Illinois by serving in 2004 as sergeant-at-Arms and in 2005 as a trustee on the Illinois Association of Park Districts Board of Trustees; and

WHEREAS, Robert Smith was instrumental in acquiring over 19 acres of land, valued at $7,450,000, and in securing over $5,647,000 in local, State, and federal grant money for the Arlington Heights Park District; and

WHEREAS, Robert Smith has assisted in the acquisition, development, and renovation of premier Arlington Heights Park District recreation areas and facilities, such as the Camelot, Frontier, Heritage, and Olympic swimming pools, the Davis Street Service Center, the Forest View Racquet and Fitness Club, Frontier Park, the Heritage Tennis Club, Melas and Memorial Parks, the Olympic Indoor Swim Center, the Pioneer Park Pool and Community Center, and Sunset Meadows Park; and

WHEREAS, Robert Smith has exhibited the dedicated ingenuity, individuality, and insight as a Commissioner that has brought creative programming, outstanding facilities, and quality services to the residents of Arlington Heights; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Robert E. Smith on the occasion of his retirement after 16 years of service to Arlington Heights, recognize his many accomplishments during those years, and wish him well in all of his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Robert Smith as an expression of our esteem and respect.
