HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jordan Lewis of Carterville, who passed away on October 17, 2013 at his home in Carterville; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis was born on June 11, 1998 in Carbondale; his parents were Tina (nee Green) Lewis and Bradley Lewis; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis was a sophomore at Carterville High School, where he played football and worked hard on his studies; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis enjoyed cheering for the Chicago Bears with his dad and spending time with his friends and family; with these things in mind, he was memorialized with a Bears-themed service in Marion, where friends and family came to say goodbye; his father wore a Chicago Bears tie, and bouquets of orange and blue flowers adorned the funeral home; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis left us too soon; the 15 year-old high school student faced overwhelming pressure at school due to bullying; in his suicide note, he blamed bullying as the cause for his actions; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Roger Lewis; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis is survived by his parents; a brother, Kyle Lewis; a sister, Deeanna Lewis; his paternal grandmother, Rita Miller; a step-grandmother, Juanita Lewis; his maternal grandfather, Bob (Joyce); his maternal grandmother, Cheryl (Roger) Rains; his maternal great-grandmother, Joyce Green; 2 uncles, Phillip Lewis and Tom Green; an aunt, Linda Lewis; an aunt and uncle, Teresa and Adam Coleman; and several cousins and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jordan Lewis and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Jordan Lewis, who serves as a reminder of the severe consequences that bullying can have, and urge the people of this State to treat others with the respect, kindness, and love Jordan Lewis and all of us deserve; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jordan Lewis as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
