HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Margaret
4Louise Moore of Cairo, who passed away on November 14, 2014;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Margaret Moore was born in Louisville, Kentucky on
7June 30, 1925 to Clarence, Sr. and Era Viola (nee Netherland)
8Shelton; she attended public schools in Mississippi, where she
9participated in girls track and, at one time, held the state
10records for broad jumping and one for one of the short track
11races; she graduated from Cairo Junior/Senior High School and
12earned Bachelor of Science, Masters, and Doctorate degees from
13Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale; she married
14James Frederick Moore on October 28, 1944 in New Orleans,
15Louisiana at Seventh & Camp Church of Christ; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Margaret Moore retired from the Harrisburg School
17System on June 1, 1994; as an employee of the Harrisburg Public
18Schools, she was able to secure a cable TV channel for the
19school at no cost; she secured the Texas Tie-in Distant
20Learning Program, also at no cost to the school; she had input
21on the location of the libraries at the Eastside and Westside
22Elementary Schools and she was involved with moving the public
23library from Church Street to its present location and updating

1the library from a collection of books to its current facility
2that includes computers, a children's area, and up-to-date
3services; she also was a part-time instructor at SIU; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Margaret Moore, along with her husband,
5grandchildren, and elderly parents traveled to all 50 states,
6all Canadian provinces, most Mexican states, Europe, China,
7Russia, Australia, New Zealand, the Fiji Islands, and South
8America; she was a member of the First Baptist Church in
9Harrisburg, Daughters of the American Revolution, and served
10several non-profit organizations to help others; she was a 4-H
11and Girl Scout leader and each year she had 4-H members
12successfully competing at the Illinois State Fair; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Margaret Moore was preceded in death by her
14parents; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Margaret Moore is survived by her husband of 70
16years, James; her son, Forrest (Elizabeth) Moore; her
17daughters, Marsha (Al) Cole and Cheryl (Mark) Bradley; her 5
18grandchildren; and her 6 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we mourn the passing of Margaret Louise Moore, and extend our
22sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew

1and loved her; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Margaret Moore as an expression of
4our deepest sympathy.
