HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Sister Kathleen Ryan of Aurora on winning the Aurora Deanery Council of Catholic Women Award for her contributions to the community; and

WHEREAS, Sister Ryan is the founder and director of the Dominican Literacy Center in Aurora; along with other nuns and volunteers, she founded the center in 1993 to give immigrant women free tutoring in reading, writing, and speaking English; since its founding, the center has aided more than 2,500 women; a separate program prepares immigrant women and men to take the United States citizenship exam; and

WHEREAS, Sister Ryan was among 15 women from 14 Fox Valley churches honored at the Aurora Deanery Council of Catholic Women's 10th annual Catholic Women of Inspiration awards dinner held at the Gaslite Manor in Aurora on September 14, 2014 and attended by a record 480 people; and

WHEREAS, Sister Ryan is a member of the Dominican Sisters of Springfield; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Sister Kathleen Ryan on winning the Aurora Deanery Council of Catholic Women Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sister Ryan as an expression of our esteem and respect.
