HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Antioch
4Volunteer Fire Department on the occasion of the 100th
5anniversary of its founding; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Antioch Volunteer Fire Department was
7organized on March 13, 1913; it had 28 charter members and a
81898 hand pumper with hose cart to begin with; it was comprised
9of Hose Company 1, Hose Company 2, and Hook & Ladder Company 1;
10in 1914, the department became a charter member of the newly
11formed Illinois Fireman's Association; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In May of 1923, the Antioch Volunteer Fire
13Department received its first motorized fire engine at a cost
14of $3,000; as of 1946, the department was responding to over 60
15calls a year and in the same year, the new fire siren was
16installed atop the firehouse; in June 1954, the department
17began holding the annual fireman's dance; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In January of 2012, the Antioch Volunteer Fire
19Department took delivery of its newest fire engine at a cost of
20$450,000; today, the department remains a volunteer department
21with 86 dedicated members; it provides fire and rescue to 37
22square miles of the Village of Antioch and the surrounding

1township; in 2012, the department responded to 910 emergency
2calls; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The Antioch Volunteer Fire Department will hold a
4ceremony to honor the 100 year anniversary of its creation on
5March 13, 2013, at Antioch Community High School; therefore, be
6it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we congratulate the members and former members of the Antioch
10Volunteer Fire Department on the 100th anniversary of the
11Department, thank them for their service to their community,
12and wish them well in the future; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the Antioch Volunteer Fire Department as an
15expression of our esteem and respect.
