HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Earline
4(nee Colbert) Rivers, who passed away on June 29, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Earline Rivers was born in Chicago on November 7,
61940 to John Harry and Gladys Colbert; she graduated from
7Englewood High School, and attended Northern Illinois
8University; she married Alvin Donald Rivers in 1965; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Earline Rivers worked as a pharmaceutical sales
10representative and later as a real estate agent; she also
11served as an office manager at her daughter's law firm for 8
12years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Earline Rivers was a member of Trinity United
14Church of Christ, where she served on the Food Share Ministry;
15she was an auxiliary board member of the Black Ensemble
16Theater, where she helped raised funds, coordinate events, and
17acted as a hostess; she attended several weekly "Silver
18Sneakers" classes at the YMCA, and worked tirelessly on her
19daughters's successful campaign for Cook County Circuit Court
20Judge; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Earline Rivers had a passion for dance and enjoyed

1watching "Dancing with the Stars"; she also enjoyed
2storytelling, gardening, cooking, skiing, camping, bowling,
3tennis, and many other outdoor activities; she was an active
4member of the Sno-Gophers Ski Club, serving in several
5capacities, including President; in 1999, she walked a marathon
6in Anchorage, Alaska to raise money for Leukemia research; she
7loved to travel and visited Italy, France, Egypt, Monaco,
8Switzerland, and Canada; she traveled extensively throughout
9the United States; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Earline Rivers was preceded in death by her
11parents, and by her siblings, James Otha McLaughlin, George
12McLaughlin, and Gladys Eugenia Ward; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Earline Rivers is survived by her children, Byron
14(Alena) Rivers and the Honorable Kristal (Harry) Rivers; her
15grandchildren, Olivia Noelle and Evelyn Rose Rivers; and a host
16of family and loved ones, including her dearest friend, Sylvia
17Morris, and her dog, Chewbacca; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we mourn the passing of Earline Rivers, and extend our sincere
21condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
22her; and be it further

2presented to the family of Earline Rivers as an expression of
3our deepest sympathy.
