HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Marvin W. Teel; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Teel was born on July 23, 1923 in rural Mulkeytown and lived in Franklin County for most of his life; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Teel graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in physics, chemistry, and math and had an early career with Sangamo Corporation as a chemist; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Teel served his country as a member of the United States Navy as a radio operator during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Teel served as a rural mail carrier in Mulkeytown for 44 years; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Teel was an excellent mechanic and a race car fan; he operated an antenna and tower installation business and still rode his bicycle and delivered newspapers for Benton Evening News until the age of 90; he also took great pleasure in frequently writing letters to the editor of many newspapers, including the Southern Illinoisian, and framing the conservative world views on various issues of the day; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Teel was a faithful member of Greenwood United Methodist Church of rural Mulkeytown; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Teel was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Elnora (nee Ward) Teel, and a brother, Harley L. Teel; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Teel is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marilyn (nee Flowers) Teel; 4 children, Sherry (Larry) Bullock, Forrest (Ann) Teel, Winona Teel, and Taylor (Kim) Teel; 7 grandchildren, Linaya Germann, Trevor Bullock, Courtney Overturf, Harrison Teel, Mackenzie Teel, Shawn Teel, and Brianna Teel; 8 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Neal; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Marvin W. Teel; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marvin Teel as an expression of our sympathy.
