HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Martha
4Rogers, who passed away on June 24, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Martha Rogers was born on October 15, 1929 in St.
6Francisville, Louisiana; her parents were Mamie and Gordon
7Blacher; she completed her secondary education at McKinley High
8School in Baton Rouge; in the late 1940s, she relocated to
9Chicago, where she met and married her husband, Edward Rogers,
10Jr.; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Martha Rogers accepted Christ at an early age and
12united with Magnolia Baptist Church of St. Francisville,
13Louisiana; in later years, she relocated to Baton Rouge,
14Louisiana and became a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church
15in Scotlandville, Louisiana; she was a member of Lilydale
16Progressive Missionary Baptist Church over 52 years; she was
17active and served on such ministries as the Evergreen Club, the
18Shepard's Ministry, the Mother's Board, and Sunday school; in
192013, she was honored with the Pearl Award during Lilydale's
20centennial celebration; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Martha Rogers' love of elegance, style, and beauty
22led her to complete a degree in cosmetology; she went on to

1become a successful licensed cosmetologist for over 55 years;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Martha Rogers was preceded in death by her
4husband; 6 brothers, Thomas, Melvin, Joe P., James, Anderson
5and William (Preacher); and a sister, Lucille Hunter; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Martha Rogers is survived by a daughter,
7Jacqueline Tarita Rogers; a son, Edward Duane Rogers; a sister,
8Malinda Blacher; and many nieces, nephews, cousins,
9godchildren, extended family members, and friends; therefore,
10be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of
14Martha Rogers; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Martha Rogers as an expression of
17our sympathy.
