HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Union Dairy of Freeport on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, Union Dairy opened in 1914 when 2 milk-delivery men, Conrad F. Kaiser and Alber J. Hill, along with wives, Minnie and Lottie, decided to join forces and combine their 2 dairies into one; Lottie Hill created the name as the 2 men sat in their kitchen discussing the merger; and

WHEREAS, Union Dairy began on a farm on Hillcrest Road; the first building was on Taylor; in 1926, property was purchased at the corner of Douglas and Adams and a new building was constructed; and

WHEREAS, Union Dairy's iconic ice cream parlor came about in 1934; in 1936, the 2 founders parted ways, with Alber Hill purchasing Superior Dairy and Conrad Kaiser keeping Union Dairy; and

WHEREAS, In 1997, Willy Alber purchased the building, did some remodeling and restoring, and re-opened Union Dairy; today it's still a family affair, with co-owner and manager, Jodi Miller, and partners, Uncle Willy and Cousin Pete Alber and their wives; and

WHEREAS, A celebration will be held June 20-22, 2014 that will feature a horse-drawn carriage historial tour of downtown Freeport, live music, car show and cruise, costume contest, parade, food, and of course, ice cream; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Union Dairy on the 100th anniversary of its founding and wish them another 100 years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Union Dairy as an expression of our esteem and respect.
