HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Gordon
4Richard Schnulle of Elgin, who passed away on April 21, 2014;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle was born in Elgin on August 25,
71925 to Gordon William and Ethel M. (nee Zornow) Schnulle; he
8attended school in Elgin and then served in the United States
9Marine Corps during World War II; he married Dorothy L. Ferhman
10on May 8, 1948; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle served as a corporal from 1942 to
121946 and fought in the pivotal battle at Iwo Jima during World
13War II; he was part of the 8th wave of Marines to storm the
14island, serving as a machine gunner in H Company, 3rd
15Battalion, 28th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division and was
16there for the entirety of the 36-day battle, which saw his
17company of Marines reduced to only 39 soldiers from
18approximately 266; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Following his service, Gordon Schnulle was
20employed for many years at the Elgin Corrugated Box Company as
21head maintenance man; he also obtained his real estate license
22and his General Education Diploma, having dropped out of school

1to enlist in the military at age 16; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle was an accomplished knife maker,
3taxidermist, doll house maker, and after 9/11, spent countless
4hours speaking on behalf of service men and women; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle was preceded in death by his
6parents, and by his son, Ronald Lang; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gordon Schnulle is survived by his wife of 66
8years, Dorothy; his sons, Gerald (Marilyn) Lang, Keith (Debbie)
9Schnulle, Kevin (Pat) Schnulle, and daughter-in-law, Vicki
10Lang; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as
11countless other friends and relatives; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn the passing of Gordon Richard Schnulle, and extend our
15sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
16and loved him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Gordon Schnulle as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
