HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Oswego Chamber
4of Commerce on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its
5founding; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Chamber was originally known as the Oswego
7Business Men's Association dating back to 1937, becoming the
8Oswego Business Association in 1957 where meetings were held on
9the third Tuesday of each month; and
 
10    WHEREAS, On July 12, 1984 the Oswego Business Association
11officially became the Oswego Chamber of Commerce to promote
12business throughout the Oswego area with Hamilton Grant serving
13as the Chamber's first President and Jeff Harvey as the first
14Vice-President; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The mission of the Oswego Chamber of Commerce is
16to promote the growth and prosperity of Oswego businesses by
17connecting them to resources, relationship, and value-added
18benefits to foster a successful business community; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In advancing the interests of business
20professionals and service organizations in the area, the Oswego
21Chamber of Commerce serves a vital role in the development and

1promotion of economic activity in Oswego, enhancing the quality
2of life of its residents; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The Chamber has been a strong partner working with
4major companies such as Jimmy Johns and Hobby Lobby, which
5recently announced that it will open a store in Oswego creating
650 new jobs; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Chamber and its energetic ambassadors host
8many community-building events throughout the year such as
9Coffee with the Chamber events, new business ribbon cuttings,
10the Chamber's annual dinner and the Business Expo which is held
11each spring to showcase the Chamber's members to the Oswego
12community; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Chamber sees Oswego schools as a vital partner
14for a healthy community and each year hosts a New Teacher
15Breakfast to welcome new teachers to the area and give them
16information on resources that assist the new teachers in and
17out of the classroom; the breakfast also provides the revenue
18needed for 2 scholarships awarded to a senior from each Oswego
19area high school each year; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Chamber continues to help Oswego's business
21community grow and succeed as evidenced by its current 430
22active members; and

1    WHEREAS, The Chamber is ably led by its President/CEO Angie
2Hibben, Financial Accounts Manager Jeannine Kristianson,
3Administrative Assistance Meghan Wagner, and the Chamber's 11
4member Board of Directors including Chairman Tim Leverich,
5Vice-Chairman Annemarie Armbrust, Treasurer Scott Vickers,
6Secretary Lynn Flores, and the area business leaders who sit on
7the Board; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Chamber has, for 30 years, served and will
9continue to serve as a model of hard work, integrity, and
10dedication in attracting jobs and improving economic
11development in the Oswego area and the State; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we honor the staff and board of directors of the Oswego Chamber
15of Commerce for their work in attracting economic development
16to Oswego and congratulate them on the 30 years of excellence
17and dedication the Chamber has provided to the village of
18Oswego; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the Oswego Chamber of Commerce as a symbol of our
21esteem and respect.
