HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to recognize Arthur Canty
4Elementary School on the anniversary of the adoption of its
5name 65 years ago; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In 1927, Irvingwood School was established in
7River Grove on West Addison; in 1935, the school moved to its
8current location on North Panama in Chicago and the name was
9changed to Grace Street School; in 1949, the school was renamed
10in honor of Arthur E. Canty and it still bears the name today;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Arthur E. Canty was an engineer/custodian in the
13Henderson School for many years; he was a leader and held
14numerous positions of trust, including President of the
15International Union of Operating Engineers Local 143-143B,
16Administrative Assistant to the Office of Civilian Defense for
17the City of Chicago during World War II, and officer of the
18American Legion; he served in the United States Army as a
19Sergeant in France during World War I; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Arthur Canty Elementary School proudly serves the
21far Northwest Side of Chicago; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we recognize Arthur Canty Elementary School on the anniversary
4of the adoption of its name 65 years ago in honor of Arthur E.
5Canty; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Arthur Canty Elementary School.
