50 ILCS 705/1  from Ch. 85, par. 501

    Amends the Illinois Police Training Act. Makes a technical change in a Section concerning the purposes of the Act.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Police Training Act is amended by
5changing Section 1 as follows:
 
6    (50 ILCS 705/1)  (from Ch. 85, par. 501)
7    Sec. 1. It is hereby declared as a matter of legislative
8determination that that in order to promote and protect citizen
9health, safety and welfare, it is necessary and in the public
10interest to provide for the creation of the Illinois Law
11Enforcement Training Standards Board for the purpose of
12encouraging and aiding municipalities, counties, park
13districts, State controlled universities, colleges, and public
14community colleges, and other local governmental agencies of
15this State and participating State agencies in their efforts to
16raise the level of law enforcement by upgrading and maintaining
17a high level of training and standards for law enforcement
18executives and officers, county corrections officers,
19sheriffs, county coroners, and law enforcement support
20personnel under this Act. It is declared to be the
21responsibility of the board to ensure the required
22participation of the pertinent local governmental units in the
23programs established under this Act, to encourage the voluntary

1participation of other local governmental units and
2participating State agencies, to set standards, develop and
3provide quality training and education, and to aid in the
4establishment of adequate training facilities.
