SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-699.14 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Secretary of State may issue Cold War license plates to Illinois residents that served in the United States Armed Forces between August 15, 1945 and January 1, 1992.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-699.14 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-699.14 new)
7    Sec. 3-699.14. Cold War license plates.
8    (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
9Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and applications
10made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may
11issue Cold War license plates to residents of Illinois who
12served in the United States Armed Forces between August 15,
131945 and January 1, 1992. The special Cold War plates issued
14under this Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles
15of the first division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the
16second division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates
17issued under this Section shall expire according to the
18staggered multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1
19of this Code.
20    (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be
21wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
22Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be
23issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with

1Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
2designate "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
3Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall, in his or her
4discretion, approve and prescribe stickers or decals as
5provided under Section 3-412.
