SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
410 ILCS 620/12.2 new

    Amends the Illinois Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. Provides that no person shall sell, deliver, offer for sale, hold for sale, or give away any synthetic meat unless the package, container, or wrapping bears, in font of uniform size and prominence, the words "synthetic meat" so as to be readable and understood by the general public. Defines "synthetic meat" as animal flesh that is produced from progenitor cells in a bioreactor.

1    AN ACT concerning health.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act is
5amended by adding Section 12.2 as follows:
 
6    (410 ILCS 620/12.2 new)
7    Sec. 12.2. Synthetic meat. No person shall sell, deliver,
8offer for sale, hold for sale, or give away any synthetic meat
9unless the package, container, or wrapping bears, in font of
10uniform size and prominence, the words "synthetic meat" so as
11to be readable and understood by the general public. As used in
12this Section, "synthetic meat" means animal flesh that is
