SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/10-19.4 new
105 ILCS 5/34-18.48 new

    Amends the School Code to provide that each school year, on or before the September fall enrollment count, the maximum number of students assigned to each teacher who is teaching courses in public school classrooms for grades kindergarten through 12 may not exceed 27 students, which must be maintained after the September fall enrollment count. Requires the State Board of Education to annually calculate class size based upon the September fall enrollment count. Effective July 1, 2013.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
510-19.4 and 34-18.48 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-19.4 new)
7    Sec. 10-19.4. Maximum class size.
8    (a) Each school year, on or before the September fall
9enrollment count, the maximum number of students assigned to
10each teacher who is teaching courses in public school
11classrooms for grades kindergarten through 12 may not exceed 27
12students, which must be maintained after the September fall
13enrollment count.
14    (b) The State Board of Education shall annually calculate
15class size under subsection (a) of this Section based upon the
16September fall enrollment count.
