SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

20 ILCS 1305/10-75 new

Amends the Department of Human Services Act. Requires the Department of Human Services to establish a Public Benefits Fraud Prevention Unit. Provides that the Unit shall investigate the misuse of State and federal funds distributed by the Department. Provides that money saved by the Department through its investigations shall be used to fund the Unit's activities. Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning State government.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Department of Human Services Act is amended by adding Section 10-75 as follows:

(20 ILCS 1305/10-75 new)

Sec. 10-75. Public Benefits Fraud Prevention Unit. The Department shall establish a Public Benefits Fraud Prevention Unit. The Unit shall investigate the misuse of State and federal funds distributed by the Department. Money saved by the Department through its investigations shall be used to fund the Unit's activities.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
