SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Coroner Cinda J. Edwards of Springfield, who passed away along with her husband on January 28, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Cinda Edwards was born in Springfield to Kenneth and Eloise (Collins) Janssen on October 9, 1956; she graduated from Glenwood High School in 1974; she attended Lincoln Land Community College and earned an associate's degree in nursing in 1979; she married Frank E. Edwards on January 15, 1983; she later received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Sangamon State University in 1989; and

WHEREAS, Cinda Edwards worked as a nurse at Priority Care from 1984 until 2011; she was appointed Sangamon County Coroner in 2011; she loved what she did and took pride in making the Coroner's office the best it could be; alongside her husband, she owned and operated Springfield Auto Body and Towing from 2005 onwards; and

WHEREAS, Cinda Edwards was involved in several local organizations, such as the Sangamon County Republicans; she also held a number of leadership roles, including serving as past president for the Illinois Coroner's Association and as president for her final two years as a member of the Lincoln Land Community College Board of Trustees; and

WHEREAS, Cinda Edwards loved to play tennis and enjoyed boating; she especially loved her family and their beloved doodle, Lily, as well as their rescue dog, Nicky; and

WHEREAS, Cinda Edwards was preceded in death by her parents; and

WHEREAS, Cinda Edwards is survived by her son, Alex Edwards; her sister-in-law, Judy Rich; her nieces, Nancianne (Mark) Knipfer and Sheri (Douglas) Iwanicki; her great-nieces, Julia Knipfer, Abby Knipfer, and Madi Iwanicki; her great-nephew, Gabe Iwanicki; her uncle, Hubert J. Collins; and her cousins, Steve Collins and Kathy Hernandez; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Coroner Cinda J. Edwards and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Cinda Edwards as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
