SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Sandra Marie "Sandy" Oakes of Waukegan,
4who passed away on October 6, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sandy Oakes was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
6to Esther Swarat Harrall on November 30, 1940; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Sandy Oakes worked as a registered nurse at Vista
8Health in Waukegan for over 50 years; she delivered babies,
9cared for NICU preemies, was a nursing supervisor, and taught
10prenatal classes; she concluded her career teaching sex
11education in schools throughout Lake County; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Sandy Oakes was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran
13Church; she was dedicated to her faith and spent countless
14hours volunteering; if someone was having a tough time or had
15something to celebrate, she would have a homemade dish
16prepared, a thoughtful card or gift sent, or a reassuring phone
17call planned, hoping to bring a smile; she was also a
18"surrogate" mom, grandma, sister, and friend to countless
19others; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Sandy Oakes was preceded in death by her mother,
21Esther Swarat Harrall; and

1    WHEREAS, Sandy Oakes is survived by her husband, Gordon;
2her children, Greg (Kim) Oakes, Beth (Dave) Johnson, and
3Richard (Elisabeth) Lanner; and her grandchildren, Madison and
4Mackenzie Oakes, Nathan Johnson, and Marcus and Anna Lanner;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Sandra Marie "Sandy" Oakes and extend our sincere condolences
9to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
10it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Sandy Oakes as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
