SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Sherwood Beldam "Chub" Howald of Bunker
4Hill, who passed away on May 27, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sherwood Howald was born in Bunker Hill to Charles
6and Helen Howald (Whitfield) on May 27, 1929; he graduated from
7Bunker Hill High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Army in
8Europe; he married Gertraud "Traudl" "Judy" in Vienna, Austria
9on May 9, 1951, and they settled in Bunker Hill, moving to the
10Woodburn farmhouse on Huette Road in 1957; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Sherwood Howald worked as a farmer and pipefitter
12for Local 553; and
 
13    WHEREAS, A resident for 62 years, Sherwood Howald jokingly
14called himself "The Mayor of Woodburn"; he was a member of the
15American Legion, the First Congregational Church in Bunker
16Hill, and the Macoupin County and Bunker Hill Historical
17Societies; he was known for his generosity, humor, and interest
18in others; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Sherwood Howald was preceded in death by his
20parents; his brother, Robert Howald; and his sister, Bertha Mae
21Benham; and

1    WHEREAS, Sherwood Howald is survived by his wife of 68
2years, Gertraud; his sons, Michael and Mark Howald; his
3daughter-in-law, Roxanne Howald; his granddaughters Amanda
4Bull, Lindsey Patton, and Whitney Vieths; his
5grandsons-in-law, Jon Bull, Andy Patton, and Brady Vieths; his
6great-grandchildren, Asher Bull, Simon Bull, Eliot Patton, and
7Rylee Vieths; his sister, Betty Zarges; and his sister-in-law,
8Carol Howald; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Sherwood Beldam "Chub" Howald and extend our sincere
12condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Sherwood Howald as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
