SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert "Bob" Gilpin of Newman, who passed
4away on November 26, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Gilpin was born in Decatur to Clark and Opal
6Gilpin on January 9, 1935; he was raised in Atwood and
7graduated from Atwood High School in 1953, lettering in all
8sports; he graduated from Eastern Illinois University, where he
9was a member of the football team for four years and a member
10of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity; he served in the U.S.
11Army; following active service, he served in the U.S. Army
12Reserve for five years; he married Nellie (Buoy) Gilpin on
13February 28, 1958; he earned a master's degree in Education
14from Eastern Illinois University; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Bob Gilpin was hired as the industrial arts
16teacher at Newman High School in June 1959; he coached
17football, basketball, and track; he later became the principal
18of Newman High School and then became the principal at Homer
19High School, where he worked for 18 years; following his
20retirement from teaching, he worked for Weberg Furniture and
21Rhodes Furniture in Champaign; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Bob Gilpin was an active member of Newman United

1Methodist Church for over 62 years; he remained an active
2supporter of both Eastern Illinois University and the Tau Kappa
3Epsilon fraternity until the recent pandemic; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bob Gilpin is survived by his wife of 62 years,
5Nellie; his two sons, Gary E. Gilpin and Brent A. Gilpin
6(Colleen); his grandchildren, Ashley Gilpin, Dakota Gilpin,
7Joseph Gilpin, and Brittany Rondeau; and his
8great-grandchildren, Lexi, Aurora, and Theo; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Robert "Bob" Gilpin and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Bob Gilpin as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
