SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Billie "BJ" McCoy-Thomas; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Billie McCoy-Thomas served as a case manager for
5the Brother's Keeper Community Resource Center, where she
6worked under her father, Chief Apostle Dr. McCoy; while there,
7she addressed various disparities within the community,
8including homelessness, unemployment, food insecurity, and
9healthcare; she served as a social worker for the Illinois
10Department of Children and Family Services; she served as a
11qualified mental health professional for the Aunt Martha's
12Community Counseling Center of Chicago; she worked as the
13creative director of a catering company; she also worked as a
14substitute teacher, an entrepreneur, and a cheer and life
15coach; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Billie McCoy-Thomas was deeply committed to her
17faith; she was known for her principles, her fairness, her
18humor, her compassion, and her empathy; she was a lifelong
19advocate in her community and was extremely dedicated to the
20youth in underserved areas; she was affectionately known as
21"Billie-Joe" and "BJ"; she will be remembered for being a
22mother, a friend, and a confidant to many; and

1    WHEREAS, Billie McCoy-Thomas is survived by her parents,
2Chief Apostle Dr. William and Pastor Emeritus Rose McCoy; her
3children, DaMoyne McCoy and Niomi Thomas; her seven siblings;
4and a host of relatives and closer friends; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Billie "BJ" McCoy-Thomas and extend our sincere condolences to
8her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Billie McCoy-Thomas as an expression
12of our deepest sympathy.
